Every week, I add a number of new albums to my monthly Spotify playlist, listen to them and if I like them enough (or just find them interesting enough to want to listen to again), they go on my favourites of the year long list. I get my recommendations primarily from Stereogum, Metal Injection, Spotify's algorithms and occasionally, real life humans.
These albums were the last to be added to my August 2019 playlist. You can find the Faves 2019 long list here. Read part 1 here.
Black Belt Eagle Scout - At the Party with My Brown Friends
Black Belt Eagle Scout is the indie project of Katherine Paul, an indigenous woman from the Pacific Northwest, USA. This, her second album, is a beautiful and lush record that sounds like very tasteful modern American indie. The fact that Paul is of Swinomish/Iñupiaq heritage gives this a more interesting background than many of the other dozens of indie album released in a given month.

Dump Him - Dykes to Watch Out For
If you are into noisy, feminist punk rock, then hey, here's an album for you! It's all good, honest stuff however, there's a clutch of great feminist punk bands - such as War on Women and Petrol Girls - that are perhaps a little more exciting and interesting right now.

Common - Let Love
Here's a serving of very chilled out hip-hop from Common. This is his twelfth album and I really enjoyed listening to it. My tastes in rap are broadly old school and really liked the easy-going beats and rhymes on this. Common has smartly collaborated with a number of artists, who all bring something interesting to the tracks.

Entombed A.D. - Bowels of Earth & Imperium Dekadenz - When We Are Forgotten
I've bunched these together as I listened to them one after the other and didn't really pay attention to where one ended and the other began... sorry, not very professional, but then, I'm not a professional. According to Metal Injection, Entombed A.D. are a Death and Roll band whereas Imperium Dekadenz (great name) are straight up black metal. I enjoyed listening to both well enough - ID probably have the better riffs and greater variety in their sound.
